Jets sign forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to a two-year contract


The Winnipeg Jets announced today they have agreed to terms with forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby on a two-year contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $775,000. The deal is a two-way contract in 2023-24 and a one-way contract in 2024-25.

Jonsson-Fjallby, 25, played 50 games for Winnipeg in 2022-23 and recorded 14 points (6G, 8A) and eight penalty minutes. The Stockholm, Sweden native also made his NHL postseason debut for the Jets on Apr. 24 against the Vegas Golden Knights. Jonsson-Fjallby, who was claimed off waivers from the Washington Capitals on Oct. 10/22, also saw action in four games for the Manitoba Moose last season and had four points (3G, 1A) and two PIMs. He has played 73 career NHL games for Washington and Winnipeg and posted 18 points (8G, 10A) and 12 PIMs.

Jonsson-Fjallby has appeared for Sweden on several occasions, including the 2018 World Junior Championships where he had four points (2G, 2A) and two PIMs in seven games to help win the silver medal.
