The Winnipeg Jets announced today they have agreed to terms with forward Sam Gagner on a one-year contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $750,000.
Gagner, 33, played 81 games for the Detroit Red Wings in 2021-22 and recorded 31 points (13G, 18A) and 32 penalty minutes. The London, Ont. native has played 967 career games for the Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Philadelphia Flyers, and Arizona Coyotes and he has recorded 505 points (184G, 321A) and 427 PIMs. Gagner was drafted by the Oilers in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft and during his second stint with the club, he became the only NHL player in the last 33 years to record eight points (4G, 4A) on Feb. 2/12.
As a junior, Gagner played one season for the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers in 2005-06 where he recorded 46 points (11G, 35A) and 60 PIMs. He then played in one OHL season for the London Knights and posted 118 points (35G, 83A). Internationally, Gagner played for Canada and helped them win the gold medal at the 2007 World Junior Championships. He also won a silver medal for Canada at the 2008 World Championships and the gold medal at the 2012 Spengler Cup.
