The Winnipeg Jets, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today announced that forward Mark Scheifele has been named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for the week ending Oct. 28/18.
Scheifele, 25, matched a career-high with four points (2G, 2A), including an assist on the overtime winner, to lead the Jets to a 5-4 comeback win over the St. Louis Blues on Monday. On Wednesday, he tallied a power play goal in a loss to Toronto. Scheifele assisted on Kyle Connor’s tying goal as Winnipeg again came from behind to beat Detroit on Friday. On Saturday, the Kitchener, Ontario native scored in a losing effort against the Maple Leafs. In total, Scheifele tied for an NHL-best seven points (4G, 3A) for the week and is currently riding a five-game point streak (4G, 4A).
On the season, Scheifele has 12 points (6G, 6A) in 12 games played. He leads the Jets in points (12), he is tied with Kyle Connor for the team lead in goals (6). His six assists are also tied for the second-most on the club. Scheifele is one point away from reaching 300 for his NHL career.
This is the fourth time in his career that Scheifele has been selected in the NHL’s Three Stars of the Week. He is the first Jets player to be selected in 2018-19 after Winnipeg had eight appearances in the Three Stars of the Week last season.
